WinPACE – Women in Process and Chemical Engineering

Promoting women in chemical and process technology with the WinPACE project

Interesting young people in science and technology, showing them professional opportunities, is extremely important for the future of Switzerland. For many years the number of young people who are interested in technical professions has stagnated. Promoting the next generation, in particular women, is also an important concern in view of the lack of qualified staff in process and chemical engineering technology.

If one wants to encourage girls to become involved in technology, targeted action has to be taken in schools and when career choices are made. On the one hand, it’s about presenting the little-known profession of process and chemical engineering credibly and attractively. On the other hand, the wide range of opportunities in this profession should be illustrated with practical examples.

The SGVC has developed a concept on the basis of a preliminary project to tackle this shortfall. The WinPACE (Women in Process and Chemical Engineering) programme targets young women specifically in the fields of chemical engineering and process engineering sciences. Events at universities and visits to companies form an important element of the programme.

Like the preliminary project, the WinPACE programme is co-financed by the Swiss Federal Office for Gender Equality (EBG).
